You seem hung up on whether or not she is a (R)acist as oppose to whether or not she said something with (r)acist overtones and that reinforces a (r)acist narrative of respectability politics and proper patriotism. People who aren’t racist do and say racist things all the time, and I think arguing otherwise gives any

Just THIS month alone, she’ll hear cases about (1) a man who was sentenced to death after an expert testified that his being black made him more likely to commit violence again and (2) a man who was convicted after police blatantly lied under oath.

I don’t think everyone who believes in respectability politics is overtly racist, but they probably should re-think their views. I believe we all expected different (better?) of RBG.

The following statements can simultaneously be true:

“I think Obama did actually a fantastic job. My conservative friends hate me for saying that, but I said it to Milo. I think actually if we have four more years of Obama I’d be quite happy.”

Ah, no they don’t. She’s clearly stated she believes in the right to protest.

She didn’t say he didn’t have a legitimate grievance. She said the manner in which he was protesting was dumb. I disagree with her about that but it’s not racist.

I disagree with the implication that taking a knee is inherently disrespectful though. First of all, it’s a song. It started out as a drinking song. There is nothing sacred about it. Secondly, the song and the flag don’t belong to veterans and “disrespecting it” has nothing to do with the troops other than serving as

Nixon had to resign after, so again it’s actually proof how unusual it is not how common it is

Right. Some actions, no matter how well-intentioned, are so inflammatory* that they are almost guarannteed to draw attention away from the intended issue and onto the person protesting.

You do know that Adams basically lost the presidency over the Sedition Acts and that Jefferson let them expire in 1800, two years later. This was a dark and foolish moment in US history that every school child is supposed to learn about and learn from. We all know this, right? Right??

Some people watch and conclude that Black Lives Matter is fundamentally about disrespecting the nation and its government, and therefore I can easily see why Ginsburg wouldn’t find that an effective means of protest. Burning the American flag isn’t what turned the tide of opinion about the Vietnam War.

That is what I have been thinking the whole time. Especially so when a lot of the conversation among other players and the things they have done have been to voice their support of Kaepernick more so than his actual position. They have kind of turned Kaepernick himself into the cause.

Imprisoning journalists is not even close to the same as imprisoning your political rivals.

It was interesting last night. After the debate was over. Hillary went and started thanking the people for coming and taking selfies with them for 15-20 minutes. Trump went straight to his family and then talked with a couple people and left. Clinton was still out mingling with the crowd.

Soon

I know a few of them. Most believe all the mudslinging Fox News & the right has been throwing at Hillary for as long as most of us can remember. No matter how many facts you present they still just can not shake the thought that Hillary is a liar who hates America. It’s ingrained in them. So all of them despise Trump

i really like her and think this is a good response. critical but not harsh

He gets better with age, doesn’t he? His fuck field is nearly barren.

I can’t believe that Billy Bush lost his job as an entertainment reporter over these comments, but over 40% of the country still wants Trump to be PRESIDENT.
