Hand sanitizers are not adequate for some pathogens encountered in hospitals and elsewhere. Nothing beats soap and water.

Hospital medicine physician here. This advice seems so logical but nearly no one does it—including staff—when going home. There’s a very unjustified assumption that if a patient they’re visiting isn’t being treated for an infection, there’s no need to be concerned.
