I did not see this problem My character came out exactly the same as the character creator on the Xbox one X, probably doesnt have this issue on the ps4 pro either.

Invite your friends to a open lobby you made then post your quest > wait for the game to say you may now fire SOS flare > then your friends can join your quest via the quest board in the lobby. Hope this helps it was very confusing
