To me, this is 100% a flex. One of the cornerstones of China’s PR over the last few decades has been the concept that anything that happens within its borders is both nobody else’s business and completely inscrutable anyway because us westerners think in terms of quarterly reports and not generations.

Looks better, sounds better, told better jokes, had a better respect for what it riffed on, so yeah. Better in every way.
