Well put. Jail in the US is used to punish people, not fix people.

At the meta level, if you want to live in a world without crime, the justice system needs to fix people. Currently it’s just breaking people further.

2nd gen Subaru GL/Leone. Everybody knows the Brats, but there’s no performance difference in the wagons, and a lot more were made (and they’re a lot more practical, in my opinion.

I had one in a small NH town with a decent population of kids with lifted trucks. It was always such a joy watching the confused faces as I

I live in Texas, and I’m not offended by these comments. There’s some hyperbole, but hell man, I’ve never felt as helpless as the week I spent trapped in a freezing house with impassable roads (a glare ice hill) and no power. Sure it was an unusual event, but the reasons the grid failed were very much political and

I needed to buy a car for my son who’s away at college. He was driving our old minivan which has no AC. Not really a viable option in TX. He came home for Saturday/Sunday morning, and we made it a mission to buy a car.

We found a (manual!) Kia Soul at a Kia dealership that was to our liking, agreed on a reasonable price

Just bought one for my son! He’s tall, and most of the budget cars we tested, the roof line was in his field of vision. The cockpit of the Soul is immense and open, I love it.

I also love that he was brave enough to say yes to a manual.

Trash management, good lord that’s on point. I raised two kids driving a 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan (I drove, not the kids). It was a great van, but whenever I decided to really clean it, the slots for the removable bench seats were tailor made to collect trash and be impossible to clean. They were the lowest point in

In the 90s, I bought a ‘57 Bel Air Wagon (not quite the Nomad, as it had four doors). It was a frankencar with a 454 in it, seats out of an 80's Cutlass, and enough bondo to completely fail the magnet test, but it looked pretty nice in a mint toothpaste green with lots of shiney chrome.

Driving home from purchasing

It cracked me up when 19 year old me got a job that involved occasionally driving 35 foot box vans, and the company asked that I go to the DMV and get a heavy vehicle license (I can’t remember what it was, this was nearly 30 years ago).

I heard there was a test, and when I asked coworkers what I needed to study, they

I was the seller, not the buyer, but it was still pretty weird.

Selling my 335i Coupe to a 22 year old kid. He picked a time and day to see it, so I met him in a parking lot... at night in the rain. He brought his parents. I asked if he wanted to test drive it, and he said no. I brought him and his mom out for a quick

I haven’t thought of that game for a good twenty years. Thanks for mentioning it.

I just posted this in another thread:

When the pandemic first hit and teh roads were empty, I found myself ‘forgetting’ to put the seatbelt on for short trips, even though I’ve been a lifetime seatbelt wearer (being in an ‘over the nose’ flip that landed upside down as a teenager really drove the need for seatbelts home).

I corrected my behavior, but I

Nostalgia bomb. At that point in my life I had enough credibility writing game reviews that I got review copies sent for free from the smaller publishers, and I have fond memories of reviewing Mercedes Benz World Racing. Awesome visual damage!

You’re going to hate me, but without the badge visible, I thought that was a Camry.

Now playing

I tried something like this with RC crawlers. Here it is with and without commentary (because honestly, I’m a bit embarrassed about the commentary but I can’t tell if that’s just because I don’t like the sound of my own voice):

Oh man, too many to mention. The one that gets me over and over is: SUVs using the bike lane as a turn lane.

I commuted by bike in CA/SF area on roads that had dedicated bike lanes on the right side. Big SUVs would decide they want to turn right, and would start drifting into the bike line, leaving me crushed between

I sold my 1984 Golf with 335k miles on it. the back doors were fused shut, you couldn’t lock the front doors, the reverse lockout gate was broken, making it interesting to know if you were in 1st or reverse, the speedometer didn’t work, and the low oil pressure warning would sound randomly until you banged the top of t

These prompts are so depressing. I’m honestly curious about the topic, and as soon as I see the headline I know it’s going to result in a sad little slideshow of copy pasted comments, resulting in an article that’s less “research and information” and more “reddit thread”

What do you mean by testing continuity? I don’t understand, but I’m curious.
