Next up: In the Heights!
It wasn’t until years later that I really thought about how little my dad showed me about those kinds of things. He wasn’t the one that taught me to drive or change a flat. He played high school football but never seemed to care if I played sports or not (I was a small kid and not really into it but a push might have…
I thought he ended it when he needed to. For me the philosophical side of the strip had started to swamp the humorous side in a way that made it feel kind of preachy. I admire him for sticking to his guns on this, but it’s a shame he never chose another outlet for his wonderful creativity.
Cats don’t tank. They dps. This is nonsense.
I thought of Trudeau and Watterson... I didn’t have time to go into them though. Trudeau is kind of a unique since he’s aging the characters in pretty much real time now. As far as I know Gasoline Alley was the only other strip that did that, and it was a little before my time. That’s a lot different than what…
Hats off to you Mr. Wong. I read the headline and thought maybe you were reading something into Marcie that the strip didn’t really support but I’m very glad I read this. You explored this character in a way I definitely didn’t pick up on as a kid in the 70's.
And he did it while still working in the gag-a-day format successfully. It’s hard to think of many other strips by his peers that were able to do that.
Biased poster at failing website, which is totally fake by the way, is wrong again. We’re going to laugh so beautifully. You’re not going to believe all the Americans laughing great American laughs again. You’re all going to be guffawing, trust me.
I think satire is dead. Time of death, 12.01 EST.
Well yeah Matsumoto was a big deal. I was to young for Astro Boy so Starblazers and Battle of the Planets were my age group’s first exposure to anime. In the mid 80's there was a syndicated Harlock show with the shows mashed together Robotech style. I still love his style; giant collars are awesome.
On the plus side Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson have insane chemistry together right from the start.
One of the many reasons I hate the open-floor setup at my office is because I am constantly looking out for hammer wielding psychos, thanks to Luther. I also keep a giant monkey wrench in my desk drawer just in case.
I don’t really think anyone at Disney is going to try and tell John Williams how to score a movie. He’s pretty good at it.
Underrated band really. For a brief run without a very stable lineup they had some great songs.
We have a fannish division of labor here. I almost never buy T-shirts for genre things I like but my wife has about a million Harry Potter, Star Wars and Doctor Who shirts. On the other hand she wouldn’t be interested in this thread, much less reply to it. Between us we are one normal person and one crazy fan.
My friends and I used to play, probably the 2nd edition. It was a lot of fun, and any game that has all the players yelling for skull fractures has a certain appeal.
The New York in Marvel Superheroes was so much fun. My son and I spent hours just chasing each other around in it for fun.
I probably should have got that from your post. That’s what happens when you surreptitiously post at your desk.
He also needs a Bat-pit crew. When you can’t hack it as a Robin but you still want to help you can always hoist a gas can.
