I don't know what the deal was with western developers during the 16 bit era and whether it was intentional or a result of lack of technical expertise but holy hell they had some sadistic game design. Amiga action games were particularly impossible.

I played through I and II last year and actually found them enjoyable. III was a good idea poorly executed (I forgot how slooooow the walking is).

I could never get over the touchscreen controls for Shining Force. I know it's probably really easy for most but I just can't stand using touchscreens for a game pad.
