Maybe because they are a new and highly innovative *American* company that hires a lot of veterans who produce vehicles that run on domestic fuel, thus keeping a lot of money in the US. Which would suggest that “Zed” is anti-American, and perhaps a citizen of an OPEC country. It’s just a guess though.

Arguably, the savings from not having to advertise make it worth it. The delays it caused are or may become a problem, though. I think part of the motivation was just “the engineering challenge”.
