Progress doesn’t mean perfection. There will always be more to do. To pretend that allowing LGBT people in the military in 1994 wasn’t progressive when 25 years later I still can’t donate blood is pretty naive.

The only issue I take with this is that people forget that Don’t Ask Don’t Tell was progressive at the time. It replaced an outright ban on LGBT people in the military (which Republicans were trying to enshrine into federal law).
