Video games haven’t replaced movies and television shows, and they’re not going to do so in the future.

I think most discussions about it need to start with the recognition that corporate interests absolutely have, do, and likely will continue to make choices that cause massive, lasting downstream damage in pursuit of short term gains.
Id say it looks like trash and would fire a filmmaker for turning in similar work.
“Why would you go out and shoot an establishing shot of a house in a television show when you could just create the establishing shot for $100? To go out and shoot it would cost you thousands of dollars”.
“...the bar is going to have to go way up because why are you going to watch my movie when you could just watch your own movie?”
Interesting question. I get the sense that he’s a very private person, so maybe he likes having a buffer between himself and all the random day-to-day interactions with the large numbers of technical/noncreative staff directing requires. The way he currently operates, he can spend the maximum time on creative…
Honest question; why hasn’t Tom Cruise directed a film by this point?
You hear stories about him taking charge on films like this or The Mummy, and that’s a gray area, certainly. But he’s been making films like this most of his life so he knows all the in’s-and-out’s. He has preferred editors and screenwriters he…
Hahaha what a story, Frank!
I’m making my way through Hollow Knight finally. I got it on sale on Steam many months ago, but I stalled near the beginning of the game because I didn’t realize I could buy items that would show my icon moving on each area’s map and update the map whenever I got to a bench to rest. Suddenly the game opened up for me…
Sadly, as far as I know, none of the games involve a character named Lisa tearing the protagonist apart.
lol might be a good time to talk about how avengers existing as pop culture icon and running around the world saving things props up and legitimizes american policing and militarization
Another day, another dumb fuck.
No, not silly. But you are a racist white POS. Learn some empathy and educate how much easier your existence is just because your white and nothing more.
Exactly. I thought Logan did a much better job of bringing something new/old to the genre without the edgelord nihilism. Though I wasn’t exactly pushing for that one to get a Best Picture nomination either.
I’m still eight months away from 40, but I’m with you. Phillips accomplished what he set out to accomplish, but remaking classic Scorsese movies with a famous supervillain in the lead role isn’t that impressive to me. I’m fine with it existing and would support more superhero movie + X reinventions as long as the box…
As a 40-something white guy, can I look down with disgust on said 20 something white guys? Maybe make a snide Gen-X comment that shows my ennui and negativity?
You can see the crappiness of most bad movies coming a mile away. Not sure why you guys think Joker should get special treatment just because people were right about it being a self-important mediocrity.
The blurb up top makes it clear what happened. “The AV Club” is a collection of individuals. Some of them thought the film was pretty good, but enough of them really hated it that it made the list. And now the comment section is going to be dominated by 20-something white guys crying about it.
This tendency for middle-aged white males to turn into fuck-faces when they hit their 50s is becoming like an epidemic.
I've always wondered why I can't get into Demon's Souls / Dark Souls, and while this article did bring up some excellent points, I still feel like I won't like it. I think it goes beyond the "difficulty".
