It was just dire. Not as bad as BBC’s Robin Hood, but still really poor. Even when you ignore it’s (mis)take on the legends, the writing was just atrocious.

Lord of Light is fine, but if I was given a Zelazny to adapt, I would pick Amber. All ten books, haters be damned.
It was cack, wasn’t it. As a fan of Arthurian stuff from way back I was alternately dismayed and enraged by it, then declared it exiled permanently from my home.
For the lump of stinky poo poo that it was it did much more than alright. The fact so many people watched that pile of manure shows how beloved that story and world are, now if only someone could make one decent adaptation of it goddammit.
In the race to find “the next Game of Thrones” I wonder how much leash each of these platforms are willing to give these shows. For how much of a cultural touchstone it is today, people kind of forget that GoT didn’t start to pick up fandom steam until after the Red Wedding. Sure, there were lots of book lovers…
“in spite of all the fan complaints, the last four Wheel Of Time books all hit #1 on the New York Times bestsellers’ list.”
Would be my most looked froward to out of all of these if it wasn’t a damn SyFy show...How disappointing. Kinda hope it doesn’t get made and then can eventually be picked up by a more prestigious network.
Speaking as a Jewish woman...go fuck yourself, Roseanne. Israel has enough racial issues without your shit added to it.
“It’s my great joy and privilege to be a Jewish woman.”
I’ll be having a bit of Aphex Twin, Spirit of the Beehive, Metric and Joy Formidable. Thanks for this list AVClub, I’m working shitloads and so inevitably find “keeping up with music” harder and harder. This is nicely condensed and accessible for a chump like me.
Fremen tossing.
I only know one of them two and I’m 20. I don’t think they were choosing mainstream options, especially because I know about a few major bands releasing albums in September and they aren’t listed.
Heck, er, yeah!
This is good news. One of the many reasons why Lynch’s film didn’t work out was that it tried to cram far too much content in far too little space. A duology is the best possbile solution for the story — hell, it has sometimes been published like that in book format, as well.
I’m curious—dare say excited—to see where Villeneuve’s vision will reside in that legacy. What about you?
Give it to Peter Jackson and he’ll make three movies out of any chapter you name.
Excited! The problem with the Dune movie (aside from the shout guns and voiceover) is that it truncates too much nuanced material. The problem with the SciFi series was that it was sorely lacking in budget and somewhat lacking overall talent, not that the talent was bad per se, but it wasn’t A list. Villeneuve, based…
I’m looking forward to this immensely. Would be amazing to have one of my all-time favourite books turned into a GOOD adaptation.
Rainbow is one of my favorite movies. A hallucinogenic mash up of everything 80's.
I’ve been waiting years for a followup to Beyond the Black Rainbow. The details are just icing on the cake. Maybe I should get around to watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, as I bailed after watching the beginning once.
