I think in the end, Snyder's version tries really hard to be true to the graphic novel but he amps up the action sequences to the detriment of some of the big ideas Moore emphasized.

Watchmen should have been a TV limited series, helmed by a serious director. It would have been perfect for that format. Zach Snyder's film tried hard, but ultimately failed to really communicate the big ideas that made the Watchmen comic so awesome.
