I'm no rocket surgeon but why didn't they just use a really hard rubber or maybe even plastic and give it more meat? I'd think given its only done 3 miles and probably isn't expected to do more than a dozen wear wouldn't be an issue and things like rocks punching a hole in the wheel would've been a higher priority.

I mean at that point you have a fisker with the F1 turbo compound deal going on as well. Its actually not that different from how a diesel electric train works (the fisker, volt, and your idea)

I propose we just make a new balls to the walls racing series. Limit engines to like 1 liter or something tiny, limit the compound on the tires, limit the exterior dimensions(there is only so much aero someone can put on a car given dimensional constraints), and let constructors go nuts.
