I can’t recommend the Backyard EOS software package enough for any night sky or astrophotographers using Canon cameras. I believe the team also now has a Nikon version of their software out as well.

I would guess that shots in the article above are most likely stacked images. Multiple shots taken of the same area of the sky and then individual images that captured meteors stacked on top of each other to produce a single image with a higher S/N ratio and of course with more meteors.
