I have a similar Prius journey, although mine was executed almost a decade earlier.
Im a salesperson and make 6 figures a year. If you work somewhere and aren’t making at least 50gs then it is either you or your employers pay plan. You can’t blame customers for doing what their part of the transaction is and attempting to save money. Maybe selling cars isn’t for you.
