This is kind of a cheap move to take the ‘throne’ from Avatar. It could backfire though.

Avatar 2 is due out in 2021. What’s to stop James Cameron from adding a bit more originally cut footage to the original Avatar and re-releasing it a few months before Avatar 2 hits theaters? Then Avatar would take the throne back…

Avatar got its record in part due to a limited theatrical re-release. 

People will buy a ticket just to get the poster and never step foot in the theater.
