The one thing I don’t like about the mercenary system is that there doesn’t seem to be and end to them. I was hoping that you could pick them off one by one and eventually eliminate them all but they just keep re-populating the queue.  It kind of cheapens it for me.

I was the same way, I actually thought leveling up happened too fast, if anything.  I was at level 50 and still had a huge swath of the mainland and a bunch of islands left to explore.  And I largely avoided the message board quests.
