A third brake light that where the illumination widens and brightens based on the amount of brake applied. Light braking; 1 or two bulbs illuminated at normal intensity. Emergency stop; all brake lights illuminated and at increased intensity, signifying "OH SHIT".

Long white ones are a good start

I have a neighbor that has one of the cleanest ones i've seen. Every time he gets it road worthy, he finds something else to do with it that takes if off the road. Currently he is wire tucking the whole car.
