I sold a sealed and graded Mario 64 about 8 years ago or so. My mother in law found it in a closet. It was a gift she had meant to give and forgot about it. I spent about $100 getting it graded and it sold for a little over $200. Now I look on eBay and graded copies are listed for a grand or more. Mine was graded …
While all that may be true, it’s also not exactly the case that the slabbing of comic books, trading cards, etc. analog media items of great value are for the sake of “preserving for future use”, either. The likelihood of someone with a slabbed Action Comics No.1 cracking it open to read it, or with a slabbed Black…
agreed! I just think of it particularly in the modern world (last 50ish years) because this obsession with accumulating garbage is just so rampant and everywhere.
I agree with 99% of this; but it’s not a modern problem. It's as old as capitalism :/
Perfect example of how power corrupts. What a fucking waste of money. The idea that “I earned my money” is such a corrupt joke - we all earn money together, it’s just some people get more of it because of exploitation. couldn’t do my job without high end tech equipment, but I can guarantee the slaves and forced…
This inspired me to look up some of my old eBay listings. Found the time I sold a sealed copy of Mario Kart 64 for $79 on August 19th, 2011. Stings just a little bit.
To be fair, most game collectors were not collecting things to play them all. They were collecting for alot of the same reasons, it's just moved beyond the smaller players.
This is disgusting.
why do these rich weirdos collect the games and then never play them? games is meant for playing
I only learned about the show much later on but I believe it's technically based on the game (though obviously very, very loosely).
I was super excited for a show that aired around then also called Maniac Mansion. Even had my dad record it. I dont think it was related to the game at all. Zero tentacles. Zero meteors.
funny you mention that. In 7th grade I submitted a bullshit book report for the Day of the Tentacle paperback walkthrough.
...I bought that collection day one, so I’m part of the problem in that regard.
I’ll wait here for my flogging.
I wrote a short story in 3rd grade that was basically Maniac Mansion and I got an A. I ended it with the arcade room.
I cannot imagine the reason Nintendo doesn’t leverage their SNES library for this. That being said, Collection of Mana contains 2 SNES games and Nintendo could charge 40 bucks for that... so maybe that’s the reason?
I found this out by having my wife playtest. I think even if people know there is a run button they don’t always realize that running also affects your jump distance and your jump height.
Oh yeah, “playtest without sprinting” is a big one too. Did you know a lot of people, maybe even most people, don’t always hold down the “run” button 100 percent of the time ? I didn’t know that until I built a level thinking all the jumps were “easy”...
This is a great point.
A lot of this comes down to a more fundamental point: People don’t playtest their levels enough. If at all.
When you create a level, unless you’re deliberately doing a troll level, you’re going to be able to run through it very easily by the time you’re done. Unless you’re deliberately thinking about it you’re not…
