It's not the engineering I doubt. I'm sure there is a reason for the extra air. But there are plenty of supercars with big vents and normal cars that get a reworked fascia with vents when they become a high performance model (that don't interfere with the headlights). People who say old cars are unreliable haven't experienced an Oldsmobile. The 60s/early 70s Rocket 350 is damn near invincible. Just make sure the weather doesn't kill the rest of the car.
