The Sunset Tree is the traditional start point. It's towards the beginning of his studio recorded output and it is, crucially, his first autobiographical work. It is about his childhood, the abuse he suffered at the hands of his stepdad, and how he feels about those things. It is great.

I think it's really only great because the source material is fantastic though.

I have never played any kid icarus games, but this is perfect video game music.

I managed to find a great cut called
Sex Verve by Verckys on youtube. Very funky indeed. Another great recc.

I'm more offended that she described Joe Wright as having "a discerning eye" tbh.

For some reason both of your videos are "not available" to me. But I looked up the Ochestre Poly-Rhythmo de Cotonou. An interesting blend of traditional styles going on there, with something of a latin feel but also a more traditional African polyrhythmic sound to the percussion (as suggested by their name). A very

This is good. I like it!

Interesting. I will definitely listen more closely to the lyrics next time around. I did pick up on the internal rhymes, it gave the song a really cool feel. I am interested in hearing more! Also, speaking of the best lyricists *talks about The Mountain Goats for 2 hours*

Great! Listening now:
Digging the Courtney Barnett. The actual song isn't anything too special, but the breathless power of the vocals really sell it.

Oooh, an excellent mix of stuff. I have been playing TPAB since it's release too, and I really like parts of it, but it's never quite gelled for me. It's a little too disjointed and crazy for me to properly absorb I think. Needs more time. I also have listened to a couple of Heems and Sleater-Kinney tracks (that Heems

I'll be right along side you there. Although I absolutely love Cloud Atlas, it's more "ambitious but flawed" than "masterpiece", whereas Speed Racer is both ambitious AND a masterpiece.

Having played Beat The Champ approximately 1000 time since it came out, I feel like I need some new music. What are y'all listening to? What should I be listening to?

Well, I haven't seen Jupiter Ascending, but for my money both Cloud Atlas and Speed Racer are "great great". But this looks "GREAT great great!"

godDAMN this looks great.

One of my friends when I asked them said "post-colonialism" which is either a fantastic answer or a terrible answer, based on what exactly that is.

Yeah I guess. It's the best I've got.

Yeah, it is a great question. I was more making fun of my complete inability to answer such a question. Like, maybe the decentralization of social media? Is that a thing?

"a cover letter answering this question: what is the single biggest cultural story nobody is covering enough right now?" - I think I'm gonna go with either my grad school buddies' GURPs game or the latest big thing in British quiz shows: Tipping Point.

Call it "The Screw", sell it to HBO and you've got a deal.

I think I just got incepted by The Babadook.
