“ The idea that the state has more money to throw at this is laughable at face value”
The state is running a surplus of about $25B.
I’m all for green-ifying transport (I happily own a Prius!), but 860W is probably the “at noon on the equator” number, and is still only barely more than a horsepower. Imagine leashing two pro cyclists to the front of your car chariot-style- that’s how much power you’re getting.
Jesus people are still peddling the bullshit about it being hard to find a gas station with diesel? I didn’t understand this in 2012 when I got my Golf TDI, and I especially don’t understand it now.
In what universe is a 200,000 mile Lincoln Town Car about to break beyond repair?
My god I love the three flash system and every time I’m stuck in a car that doesn’t have it I feel like I have traveled back to a less civilized age.
I would think any cannibalization would come more from Tesla allocating more resources to Model 3 production to meet delivery goals at the expense of S and X output, rather than from customers shifting purchasing decisions. Counterpoint re model mix: There are a lot more people who wanted Model S/X and already got one Vs people who wanted a “Tesla” and still don’t have one. In fact, desptie frequent incramental updates both have been around for a loong time (far longer than the start of deliveries would indicate: due to Tesla’s habit of…
There’s no such thing as too much turbocharging. They just need to raise the redline beyond 6250 RPM, and reintroduce a bit of lag to make it more dramatic.
There are sooooo many people that would be delighted to own a new Chevy Cruz but can only afford a broken down 10 year old cobalt or civic. So maybe “No wealthy car snob has ever been delighted to own a Chevy Cruz” is more accurate.
So what?
A couple of counter-points: when the provincial government in Ontario recently canceled EV incentives, sales plummeted so I don’t quite accept the “people would buy them anyway” argument.
The flip side to this is more hybrids and plug-ins hybrids should occupy more preowned inventory, so the people that would like an EV but can’t afford one, regardless of tax credits, now have more inexpensive alternatives.
