Range Rover started at over $70k. LR3 started at $39k.

Nope. L322 RR (‘03-’12) rode on a revised BMW X5 platform, LR3/4 had its own and came out in ‘05, RR Sport comes out in ‘06 riding on a shortened version of the LR3s very, very heavy platform.
You underestimate the Jaloposphere.
As if I could forget. That engine is quite dated and outclassed now, but what I wouldn’t give to get Porsche/VAGs or even Fiats V8 under the hood of something over here. Not holding my breath on that ever happening though.
I sure hope so. Do you still have your super-unreliable Range Rover? How is that thing doing, would have to be nearing 100k by now, IIRC.
This is definitely the full-size one, don’t believe they’d bother to do full-body camo on an engine upgrade. I don’t love the shape, wish it would’ve stayed Boxford and more distinctive, but I’ll wait for final pictures, because you never know what’s under the camo. And, don’t think the Disco Sport well be getting…
Wait, do we have info on this thing yet? Is it migrating to the RR platform? I sure hope so. The current one is still really good, but I’d love essentially a new RR with a more upright greenhouse, more space, and less ostentation. And if they won’t sell me one with a Supercharged V8, please oh please make the Diesel…
No one is telling anyone what they can and cannot drive. The point is, if you’re going to charge a Charger SRT8 driver $1500 for getting poor fuel economy, but then turn around and waive the fee on a suburbanites F150 because ‘F150s are work trucks’, that doesn’t really make any sense. Neither is being used for work,…
Well, the Audi and Infiniti are the only ones that don’t look like an absolute abortion, so whichever of those drives better. The A3 just looks so much better than the Q3 (and all cars/fancy hatchbacks in this class) on the outside, but none of the cars in this class seem to have an interior that’s even halfway…
You should’ve come by Porsche Southpoint! They have their thing, unfortunately on the same Saturday as C&C, but it’s fun. Sometimes it’s a pretty diverse mix of cars. I do the food - out of an LR4 or a RRS Autobiography.
Thank you for clearing this up, I hadn’t thought about it like that. I jist sat there thinking to myself ‘how many of those things could there possibly be left?’ Also explains the distinct lack of new, mainstream cars that are still available new.
Also, don’t forget the SSR, which was 360 based. Not to mention all of the crazy variants, like the why-not-just-get-a-Tahoe/Yukon XL variants, or the completely wtf XUV.
Saw that too. Those big engines, complicated 4wd systems, and general lots of moving components (adjustable air suspension, anyone?) are going to have a lot more booked maintenance than your average econobox. I’ll have to look and see what the maintenance schedule is in my LR4 when I leave.
Exactly. Not mentioning that your 40k mile transmission fluid changes and bi-yearly brake fluid changes is going to significantly prolong your component life kind of defeats the point of ‘saving’ money with the lifetime (or rarely changed) stuff. I’m also highly skeptical of Lexus’ costs. 10 years ago, they sold a lot…
The turning radius of these is just unreal. I can see that being immensely useful in a tight urban area.
Possibly some sort of ‘Turtle’ mode (the BMW i3 will let you go past the reserve meter if you ‘run out’ of juice, but you drive very, very slowly), but I doubt they’d let you use much, or drive very fast, probably not more than 20 or 30mph.

I’ve always maintained that this is the car that the ‘American’ Passat should have been. I mean, VW was already making a large, conservatively styled, and price-competitive sedan, with an awesome liftback body and a wagon variant. Why go through all the hassle of making a second one that isn’t even as good?
I honestly can’t believe it’s taken this long for them to make a 2 GC. If BMW makes it a liftback, that’d be awesome. If they make it actually pretty (sorry, but I am not a big fan of the 2 or 1-series coupes, looks wise) it will be a hit in that segment.
