Coming from the Land-Rover mileau the first thing that strikes me is how sprawling it is, the second that Toyota has such a lot of stuff apparently designed to drag along the landscape it is supposed to cross; over hanging bumpers and side steps and all closer to the ground than I’d expect.

Nah, most likely still a standard Land-Rover underneath, just got another bodywork on top of the chassis.

Most likely an Mk 1 Range-Rover/Discovery chassis, most of the car-body-on-4x4 conversions used those here in the UK and judging by the V8 soundtrack more likely to be the R-R (most Disco’s were Tdi).

I wonder if China isn’t going along with these sanctions hoping it’ll get away with it’s South China sea disruption in return?

That strikes to the heart of it, I reckon: Clarkson is articulate and witty in a deliberately slightly dumbed down way that makes it accessible.
