There is no slowdown if you dual boot and it is the only sensible option if you want to play games. It gives you the option to boot either OS X or Windows, you don't run one on top of the other.

Also I don't see something like ATM or photo booth benefit from running newer version of Windows. If the software works on it fine, the thing will run forever until HW craps out (which is probably the cause for the corrupt file anyway).

Perhaps he meant a switch from PowerPC to Intel? Seems like kind of a stretch to compare the two, but I can't think of any other case where Apple tossed legacy devices out of the window.
