I also think Phillip Kaufman's contributions are overlooked. I'm not sure what the breakdown of who supplied what story elements is, but Kaufman is definitely a better writer than Lucas, and consistently makes excellent films in a variety of genres.

For my money, and I may be alone in this, the best Indy knock off was Nate and Hays. I would rank it higher than any of the sequels.
Marion is the best love interest in any action movie. Tough, smart, with her own agency and through line, no one else comes close. I'd say Hicks and Gracie Law are the other options.
