Wasn’t Time’s Up created precisely because of such “recent events” that are no longer so recent?

Because they were in a stolen car?

Last year, my neighbor’s son was shot and killed by a group of teenagers who stole a car, crashed it, and fled the scene.  He chased after them along with the guy whose car they hit.

They have plenty of power, are everywhere, and are apparently easy to steal. It’s the trifecta!

You don’t understand how this works in the city. If something happens, you better have your gun ready, whether what happened was your fault or not. Doesn’t matter who hit who, be ready to have a gun in your face by making sure that you have your gun ready. Especially at sideshows. Everyone is packing.

Agreed - many commenters should spend a couple of weeks around downtown Detroit before spouting off with their pious rhetoric. I think I’d rather be on patrol in the middle east than a cop in Detroit.

Ugh, I absolutely loathe these take overs, especially when this type of shit happens.

Fun trivia fact: You can fit the cities proper of San Fran, Atlanta, and Manhattan inside of the geographical boundaries of Detroit.

That being said, did the police officer identify himself as such?

Yeah a lot of people who carry guns assume they are the only person in the world who is going to have a gun on them that day. A buddy of mine got involved in a road rage incident years ago in Detroit and the guy pulled a gun. My buddy also had a gun so it turned into two guys with drawn guns staring each other down

I was rear ended recently in baltimore. The guy who hit me tried to fight me. I could see this happening.

Unfortunately, recent events have made it clear that even our apparent allies in the fight to advance women can turn out to be abusers,”

I agree, but I also question what anyone should be expecting from someone who doesn’t realize their doing donuts within striking distance of an unmarked cruiser, in a stolen car. Said person seems liable for some unpredictable shit.

For once I’m not that skeptical of the story…at least the part where the passenger exited the car with a handgun and pointed it at the driver of the Charger.  That seems upsettingly believable.

The skepticism is highly warranted, but I could see this happening since the unmarked cop car also appeared to be a Dodge Charger. ALL of the cars at these illegal “sideshow” events are Chargers or Challengers. Racing and hooning Chargers in Detroit is so common it’s reached meme status.

You must not be familiar with how Detroit works, lol. People mind there own business for the most part, but if you mess with any part of their money...uh...there are consequences for that.

Sorry but you’re wrong. California’s murder statute codifies common law murder - only first degree premeditated murder is a “specific intent” crime. Second degree murder is a “general intent” crime.

It would appear so. I didn’t make my comment out of nowhere, I was reacting to a BS phrasing that seemed to reduce culpability of the actors in this tragedy, implying at a low level that the victims were dead as a result of poor judgment, bad luck or something similarly nonpartisan.  I suppose that, looked at in one

Agreed. “Lost their lives” had me hoping it was the dipshit racers that had died. When the bystanders are no longer with us, they were killed.

I check the CA code and found this: “Malice is implied when no considerable provocation appears, or when the circumstances attending the killing show an abandoned and malignant heart.”  That last bit is their phrasing of  “depraved heart murder.”

It’s been over 20 years now.
