Very true, and I admit I tried and failed to find a way to explain that properly. I was simply hoping to explain that there’s a difference in “biology/chromosomes” and “social presentation of gender.”

Ah, interesting. My local library system tends to sell older books, but newer ones (especially those in high demand) will go into circulation. Either way, feels good knowing that my book purchases are going to others and helps the local library.

I’d consider books a “depends on what you do with them after” expense. I get a lot of books from my local library, but I also want to read the latest bestsellers, and there’s usually a huge waiting list already. So I’ll buy a copy of the book for myself, read through it, then donate it to my local library. That way I

I believe that’s a case where you would use “They are.” I might sound confusing out-of-context, but in-context people will likely know what you’re talking about.

That is how we’ve done this historically, but not necessarily how we should do things in the future. Moving to a more neutral system of “they” can help shift the power balance from “assuming it’s a man in power” to something less paternalistic/patriarchal.

That’s biological sex, not gender.

Here’s the thing: many of the point against a Tesla shouldn’t need years of refinement. The interior quality? The suspension? Those have been refined over time, and moving them from ICE vehicles to EVs shouldn’t take much work.

What’s the point of bringing Takata into this? Does unacceptable work by one company mean that unacceptable work by another company is now ok? Do we allow people who commit hit-and-runs to walk free just because someone else committed murder? Of course not, because both are bad.

My standards are “better than the industry average.” I’d say about half of them manage to live up to it.

Every car has recalls, yes. But not very many cars have the same number per model that Tesla has. In a choice of fewer versus many, I’ll go with fewer.

Sheer, dumb luck that nobody has been hurt by it. Do we let people off the hook if they shoot into a crowd of people but miraculously nobody is hit? What happens when someone does get injured or killed by a flaw that Tesla should have discovered in testing? The fact that they’ve been lucky so far is no excuse.

This isn’t snark, this is serious concern over the fact that Tesla has a history of pushing out vehicles without doing enough testing. This latest recall is just more evidence for that concern.

Thank you for the information about the Camry, I was actually unaware. I should hope that they’ve reduced the number for their newer vehicles. I stand corrected about Tesla, but still, their number seems very high compared to the market as a whole.

Your point being...?

That’s comparing number of vehicles recalled to number sold, I’m talking about number of recalls compared per model of vehicle. Porsche, MB and Kia all have significantly more models, each one likely having fewer recalls than Tesla’s *2* models.

Other manufacturer’s have problems, but how many of them have the sheer number of design issues per model that Tesla has? Retrofitting underside shielding for batteries, giving Model X owners sunshades to ameliorate the massive windshield’s greenhouse effect, recalls for the seats sliding forward (isn’t this the

Yeah, every single one of those companies should have done better. Way, way better. But “whataboutism” doesn’t excuse Tesla’s haphazard approach.

Oh look, a Tesla design issue. I’m shocked.

I like the Pontiac Aztec.

You can label that picture however you want, I know it’s Rob Lowe in a wig.
