@lordargent: The one's that are U3-enabled have the menu your talking about.

WinTidy is still the one I use; being able to use tiny icons and different layouts per resolution is ideal for my laptop.

Vote: Feedreader

@twopeak: Not that I know of.. your best bet is to use USB Detect & Launch to execute the autorun (or whatever app you like). I use the for running my backup software automatically.

USB Detect & Launch is far more powerful and can fire up applications stored on your PC, or on the USB device itself. What it launches can be determined by the label of the device.

I get the enter a zip/city when I try this on the O2 network in the UK. Still, it works after I enter the city.. it'd just be nice if it detected it.

File Mover is a free app I wrote to move files from one folder to another. It's very flexible and can fire off a batch script to do anything complex (such as email you, or write to an RSS feed).

Personally I use a combination of Juice + File Mover + RSS Feed (to tell me when something new is available) + USB Detect & Launch (to copy the podcast onto whatever removable drive/player I insert into the USB port).

ArsClip does the job for me... used it for years without any problems.

FEBE us awesome.. I schedule it to backup my profile each week into a TrueCrypt encrypted volume so that all my bookmarks & auto-fill form data & stored passwords are safe from prying eyes :-)

@alvaromartin: The app you're thinking of is called WinTidy. It lets you save the a layout for each different screen resolution, plus also lets you use 'small icons' which I find immensely useful for my work laptop which is jammed with icons.

I've got all this in a startup script written in vbscript. The PC will process my startup folder normally, but one of those items is this script.. the script can delay what you like.

I'm still a fan of Allway Sync, and use USB Detect & Launch (free) to automate the detection of my USB devices and launch the appropriate backup script/app.

@Weazul: If you're getting sick of the number of icons in your system tray then you can hide it from view by.... right clicking on the tray arrow | Properties | Customise... | Then select 'Always Hide' as the Behaviour. That'll remove it from view until you click the arrow to display all your icons & keeps things nice

I don't know of anything that's integrated as well as this into Windows. However I'm happy to use AllWay Sync (free) to perform the backup, the advantage here is that it'll do a sync, not a full backup each time.

@The How-To Geek: Awesome! You donate to freeware apps... plz could you like some of mine, there are so few people that actually donate it's untrue. Of course, my apps might be rubbish & that's why nobody donates :-D

For generic monitoring of folders & moving files automatically I use File Mover (free) which allows you to move files based on various rules.

On mine I have the server distribute the caller ID on calls received on my landline. That number is sent out to XBMC, my gaming PC (where it uses text-to-speech), laptop, and an RSS feed that I can see at work.

I use the XBMC CallerIdLite script which will detect an incoming phone call, pause playback, and print the caller id on the TV. This website details everything you need to know to set this up.

(hope this doesn't show up twice; the comment system is a little twitchy)
