The expanse started as a sci fi tabletop campaign. Then it became a book series, then a show.
I think the touchscreen thing is because it’s getting cheaper. You don’t have to design and build any parts specific to your vehicle; it’s just a screen. All of the design and UX work is then digital, no factories required.
They are doing their jobs: writing about automotive news. A bunch of people trying a new piece of equipment said “hey this steering design sucks”, and an automotive engineer said “the vehicles that normally have this type of steering are literally designed to not turn much”.

We haven’t had anything remotely close to what you’re talking about in the last few years. People won’t just go about their lives if the entire government is overthrown. SO much revolves around international commerce, and all of that grinds to a halt if the American government were to fall.
