Personally, I believe this is the same reason for so many anti-vaxxers. People forget our history. It has been so long since so many people routinely died due to infections and diseases that we have forgotten the real struggles and the miracles that modern medicine really is.

I got mine at 34. I figured I had enough to decide what fit my life then. It is mathematical, and I still don’t regret it.
My wife wanted to know why it wasn’t her name. I plan to be with her until the end (its been 22+ years now), but I still wasn’t going to go that route..

I can’t believe how old they look. It makes me feel SO old.
Of course, I am pretty sure they have partied a lot and earned those life mark.s

I don’t agree with Jeff Flake’s politics at all, but I do appreciate his honesty in this matter.
I think this is another case for term limits for Congress. I don’t know what those are (3 terms for Senators? 18 years seems like a good length to serve).

Perhaps more people would be willing to get things done or at least

Pretty sure that at this price point, it is random pattern.

Agreed.

I’ll grant you that there is crookedness in both parties.
Strom Thurmond was a Republican for nearly 40 years. He left the Democratic party due to the reason you cite.
To say he was a staunch democratic liberal is either misinformed or misleading.

I would agree that waiting is better, but then there is the aspect of life expectancy. What is the cost-benefit of losing those 3 years of income (62 vs 65 or later). If you only live to 70, I am not sure it would matter much if you took retirement early. If you live to mid 80s, then you have probably missed out on

I teared up as well, and my wife and I verbally agreed not to talk about the short too much. We have twin boys who will be juniors, and they are really just awesome in so many ways (even if you leave out our parental bias), and that short took us to a place we don’t want to think about, but we know it is coming.

Eh, I don’t have much of a problem with that. I voted for her, but I don’t like her either—I think she has done some incredible things, but then I think she has done some pretty shady things as well.
At least your friend DID vote for her, unlike so many other short-sighted fools. It is so much worse than I feared, and

I was just lamenting this the other day because I used to believe it when I was younger.

This makes me sad because I agree.

Thanks for saving that joke!

My first thought...we lost the joke! But then I read TampaBabaYaga’s comment, and it looks like it was easily fixed...

Where does a one-legged woman with the sniffles work?

He (She?) is just itching for someone to ask, why, isn’t (s)he?
The expectation of trolling with no real nibbles just must be agonizing...

It sounds weird, but I use to play wrestle with my dog as a kid, and I would think of what I would do in an animal attack situation, and choking it or going for the mouth (and then the eyes) was all that I could come up with.
(Note: I did none of this with my dog, just random thoughts while playing with him.)

I teach AP Calculus and I would have LOVED if you had said one time or two times in a Wyclef Jean voice in my class!!!

I appreciated that final comment. My wife and I had that once. The wait staff could be seen talking at the bar, and we sat for about 10 minutes (and it was not over crowded). They looked surprised when we got up and left, walking right past them to the door.

We knew we weren’t going to be rich off teaching, but according to you, we should also have known that the paltry increases in pay would not have kept up with insurance and inflation for the last 20 years? We knew we weren’t going to be wealthy, but according to you, we should have known we would need an extra evening

I do have to confess—ours were great sleepers, and it didn’t take long to set up a rhythm for them.

You may be right about the sleeping, but I also think it is because I am getting older, too.
