The CF does not add any compression resistance so I’d be more worried about epoxy holding up and even with a compromised layer the CF will be plenty strong in terms of tension to hold everything in with a wheel spinning at a high RPM. It will probably start to fray around the edges, I wouldn’t say it’s brittle but if the epoxy gets fractured the strands will not be held together. Better hone your skills in a parking lot first and avoid curb rash.

I’ve built things out of carbon fiber and fiber glass and what they are capable of making out of these composites blows my mind. I know they have industrial processes that are way better than me placing a resin soaked fabric over some shaved foam by hand but damn.
