I’d like to point out that the original article never mentioned video games, only an “avatar in the game”. That doesn’t rule out the original board game theme. And the ridiculous names and outfits make sense in that context. (Think about Clue’s suspects.)

But as others said, it’s a bit insane to speculate that much…
