Honestly, you could pickup a small used 8 foot popup for under $3k, beef up the frame and add a beefier axle with a lift for another $3k, add one of those articulating couplers for $500 and end up with something very capable for well under $10k. At least, that’s what I would do if I were looking for an off road camper.

For me, I dislike tent camping due to the set-up/break down time and having to find a way to pack everything into your car. Even a pop-up is much less effort to set up than a tent in my opinion. Please the extra stuff like chairs, cook tops, propane, pots/pans, etc. can all be kept in the camper and stays there even…

That and the weight thing doesn’t seem right. The heaviest Bronco is only  about 200lbs more than the lightest Silverado...that’s not enough to really be noticeable.

Tongue weight stresses the suspension and frame (a light sailing dinghy should be a very low tongue weight though).

European towing laws focus more around tongue weight and have less restrictions on stability at speed so the trailers are more evenly balanced with a more centered axle location leading to less tongue weight.
