A few engines have source code from the original Quake engine. That doesn't mean that they're essentially the same. Basically, there's Quake code that's still worth using today. You don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. The Call of Duty engine for example is a heavily modified version of the Quake II engine,

The proper recoil-based system of CoD4?! BWahaha! CoD4 is in no way proper, it feels great but it's far too easy to excel at which means it's easy to hit the peak skill level in that game. Basically, you just have to remember the pattern of the recoil and you can control exactly where your shots are going. Battlefield

You do realize that CS:Go is basically going to be an updated CS:S, right? It's still running on the source engine at the end of the day.

Making it less of a fix and more of a workaround. With all their talk about how they were making a proper PC version prior to release, you would have thought they'd ensure that the FoV could be easily changed.

Not to mention the mouse acceleration and FoV issues.

Lots of games run on medium hardware. The game runs on UE3, it's not as if it's unoptimised for the PC, especially so late into its life. Because of that, I think we can forget about giving the game props for how it performs and so we can still come to the conclusion that it was a bad port.

Hint: If you need to tell people to search for the reference then it's probably not a reference worth making.

Will it solve the problems associated with the lazy porting? I mean, sure, it wasn't god-awful but Gearbox likely won't be getting a sale from me after the first game.

...But it is, that's what I'm saying. Riot Games is made up of people that originally created DotA.

Ya, really. There's massive variation there for anyone not ignorant enough to give the genre a chance.

Riot Games has some of the original people behind DotA. IceFrog didn't actually come in until the game was well established.

I did....but then I questioned Joel's journalistic integrity after the Razer Blade article and "You don't get to accuse us of being paid to write what we want and be a starred commenter."

I guess it did but yes we do. You'll have to excuse some of us if we can't keep up with every half-arsed meme that's born. Care to explain for the rest of the class?

HURR! HURR! HURR! You're so fucking hilarious! I can't stop laughing! /sarcasm.

Ehhhh....I don't know if that's an accurate statement to make. It's more like he develops it on Java for Java....not really platform specific in any sense...other than being on the Java runtime platform.

Myself and Excel have a world going and I've told him I'm not starting the server up again until the update hits. Let the hunger grow!

Your comment is a sham. Try harder, troll.

No, it's a reference to the old school days where Quake Pro's would go basically fisheye FOV just for the wider vision and still own the noobs.

Why not? Adding some more tough love into the game in the form of "realistic" scenarios would be cool. /ignores pun

Well said. I think I'm just holding out hope that Joel has some integrity and confronts the issue at hand and the charges against him without getting in a huff and dismissing his detractors.
