Based purely off Hayward’s “Game Log” on ESPN, Hayward played pretty well from January on (excluding the Milwaukee series). So at least during the second half of the year, he started earning his playing time.

So I looked at Hayward’s stats, and was surprised to find out that he actually started shooting the ball pretty well toward the end of the year, at least inside the 3 point line. He ended the year with a fg% of 46.6 and 33.3% from three - which is actually pretty in line with his career averages of 44.6% and 36.4%.…
Your comments inspired me to look up Terry’s stats. Scary indeed. I did not realize, or had forgotten, how bad his shooting is. 4 years in the NBA, and not a single season over 40% (though he did shoot 38% from 3 last year on 5 3pa per game).
Agree. I actually don’t mind the Machado contract, though I can understand why teams would balk at making that kind of commitment to him. Harper, on the other hand, was a dumb signing. He is wildly overrated and plays an easy defensive position.
They would also have the best hair.
Seems reasonable that the players would be patient for a little while - the first month or so. But when Gordon kept sucking, they might start getting pissed that he was still getting their minutes. On the other hand, Hayward’s a max player, so the team/coach have a lot of reasons to keep giving him playing time and…
Not trying to be snarky here, but did you feel the same way when he was on the Jazz? I never heard any of those stories, but I also don’t follow the Jazz very closely.
For sure, there could be some racial undertones. Hayward did seem to get a free pass from the media, especially if he really was causing problems in the locker room.
Only when Kawhi played, he was awesome.
So is Gordon Hayward a diva? I hadn’t really heard that before. I had assumed and thought that Kyrie was the biggest/only issue in the locker room. But Rozier’s response makes it sound like Hayward was a problem as well. Or at least, the way other players perceived how the coaches were treating Hayward was a…
Hmm. I seem to remember a lot of Deadspin articles ripping MLB teams for not racing to pay Harper and Machado. Obviously, it’s still early, and I’m sure Harper and Machado will have at least one or two monster seasons during their 10-year deals. But this is exactly why teams were so hesitant to hand out such monster…
Normally I would be on board with you. But from the little bit of the game I watched (it was on in the background, but I was doing other stuff), it seemed like he was taking a lot of really tough shots because some of the other players on his team were afraid to shoot. He was also 6-9 in the 4th.
I agree with most of this. I think he might be a little overrated on the offensive side. Yes, he calls great plays out of timeouts. But there were a lot of times this year where it seemed like the offense went stagnant for prolonged stretches, with players unsure what to do if option 1 was cut off. Not sure if…
Yes, yes and yes. Kyrie’s injury history alone should be reason not to sign him to the supermax. Combine that with the personality issues and locker room drama he brought this year - the Celtics should look elsewhere. Or, just run with the young guys they have for a couple of years and see what big names become…
Informative comment. I was wondering as I read the post, “Is Sale back?” I’d like to see one or two more quality starts before I get too excited.
Kawhi looks like he’s moving so slowly, yet no one can stop him from getting where he wants to go.
Needs more stars.
That has got to be the most unathletic-looking ESPN profile pic I’ve ever seen. Needless to say, I spent the next 20 minutes watching Caruso highlights. He might look like a balding Uncle Rico, but dude can ball.
Seriously. I thought that was the Met’s manager at first.
For me, it was definitely when KD joined the group. I had liked the Warriors before that. And I had liked KD before that. Together, they became insufferable.
