[W]hen Bayless's newspaper folded in 1991, he faxed his columns to those willing to pay a subscription.

+1. And always a plus when they have to set up the voicemail with a lengthy explanation for the 80% of the audience who doesn't know who the guy is.

GOOD LORD. That's the worst (best) thing I've ever seen.

I think Tom Scocca covered this over at Gawker recently.

I still don't know why they didn't call the channel "FXY." Would have made much more sense, given what they seem to be trying to "accomplish," here.

I know, right? What with all of that charity work he does and those sick kids he helps just to make himself look better! What a glory boy!

I've said this before, but we're a lot closer than most people think to football disappearing from every level below major college (and even that will probably disappear in a generation or two).

Very interesting find. Also of note is just how wide-ranging the amount of television coverage was, from the Yankees' 129 games to Milwaukee's zero (a wonder they left town).

Wow. Hard to fault them for that. The Shield is a Mount Rushmore drama for me.

Horrible message, but par for the course for this guy. He's already taking a beating on his Facebook

I have followed this story as both a wrestling fan and from a human interest perspective. But this was an amazing account of what DDP is doing, and how it's affecting the folks in the program. Outstanding work, Tom. Terrific piece.

Aaaannnd . . . he just snagged a foul ball.

Watched it live and literally jumped. Best play I've seen this year, period.

I'm worrying that ESPN is going to become the MSNBC of sports, with Fox being, well, Fox. Although I think there's a pretty clear progressive bent within ESPN (with the exception of a few ex-jock meathead commentators), it seems like they're moving to put that more front-and-center now. The next step will be giving
