When this is not engineered to its full potential, you get what’s commonly referred to as “torque steer,” understeer, where the power twisting the front wheels breaks the traction of the tire on the road surface, which then causes the momentum of the car forward instead of where you’re trying to turn.

torque steer,” where the power twisting the front wheels breaks the traction of the tire on the road surface, which then causes the momentum of the car forward instead of where you’re trying to turn” -> that’s understeer.

I almost choked at 45 fucking grand for this thing.

You guys worry about the names of vehicles too much instead of the vehicles themselves. This isn’t linguisticnik.com, it’s jalopnik.com.

Waiting for the endless list of “I would totally buy this if it weren’t for _________” (Insert some inane reason here).

Also Jalops: I’m going to buy a used Camry.

Sigh, they won’t sell and they’ll never even realize why.”

Not every car is targeted to driving enthusiasts and has to have 500+ hp. The Crosstrek is one of them. Most buyers are happy with a car that is reliable, serviceable, and meets their transportation needs without asking too much in return.

Ya im very surprised or maybe not that surprised that jalopnik did the bare minimum for this article.

Ah yeah! This is how Jalops like to end the work day! Bitchin’ and moanin’ about a new crossover!

100% tru fax

it’s actually called:

Why do I have a strong suspicion that most of y’all saying “no stick, no sale! would find another excuse not to buy it even if it did have a stick?

I know that people love to be gatekeepers with respect to manual transmissions, but how long can we keep making this argument when the base 911, Corvette, etc are no longer offered with a manual. Should hot hatches really be held to a higher standard than true sports cars?  A manual enhances certain experiences but

IMO Mazda is not going for these hot hatches with the 3 turbo. They’re going after the A class and A3 and such. A more value oriented premium non-German alternative. But that itself is a weird spot as the segment doesn’t see a lot of sales.

Not a neg article, bravo Erik!

I would just go out and buy a CPO X5 for the same price. Wait, that is exactly what I did. The only downside is a little less cargo space and a barely usable 3rd row but we are a family of 3 so it is plenty big enough for us, even when grandparents are in town.

You misspelled Lambo, bro.

Oh I get it, I’m also one of the 5 people in the US who likes these kinds of things. I have a Golf R, most people have no idea what that is but I do get a lot of “you paid HOW MUCH for THAT?!” when we get into details.

That seems to be exactly what they’re going after, for better or worse. I want a compact, premium, quick all-wheel drive hatchback. This is now the best (only?) option on the market. I’ll be one of those 5 when my current lease ends in October.
