Engaging shows people that you won’t stand up for sexism or racism or whatever, and it makes most members of certain groups feel welcome even if there’s shouting involved. Even if a flame war starts, if there’s enough people on one side of the flame war, we’re going to see less people being assholes in that particular

I’m wondering if it’s really aimed at parents who want to hear how they can still pressure their young daughters into “taking back” their abortions.

Eh, it can make sense if you live a long distance from the mall and have some shared chores to take care of in the area. Then it becomes a decision about how much waiting is worth a carpool or if shopping deserves a separate trip.

As far as I can tell, it’s a thing with men/teenagers who are never in relationships. They want to be with a woman who plays video games, but no one wants to be with them, so they’d just prefer to think that the thing they want doesn’t exist. At least, that’s how the sexist gamers I’ve met IRL seem to think.

Most people would agree they’re particularly nasty, though. I think Cecilia is right about the reason; they hurt more because they’re linked to certain kinds of people having a tougher time in real life. Like, I work in a field that’s 80% male, and have had guys question my skills because of sexism; for me, that’s why

Not just the greys. :/

But why are gendered insults particularly nasty? If everything is pretty equal, then they shouldn’t hurt worse than anything else.

Being in a shouting match with someone else beside you is waaaaay better than enduring a more quiet asshole on your own. It really does help a lot. Plus, I do think it matters in the long run. There’s this idea in the culture that participating in flame wars is proof that you’re tough, and getting insulted is

It’s not “just because you have a pair of balls,” and she doesn’t insult men. She specifically says people who tolerate harassment instead of doing something about it. Many men are actually helpful, and there are certainly women (not girls) who hide their gender and don’t speak up either.

I don’t totally agree with the article, but yeah, the comments are mostly horrible. I really wish this was one of those with a separate version posted to The Root.

There’s some stuff by Anawiki games, but it’s not far off from Fantasy Mosaics.

Not in a way that is normally considered sexy, though. That’s one reason I liked his art for Odin’s Sphere a lot more, there were bare abs to complement all the bouncing boobs.

“Paint it Back” is my favorite Steam picross game.

Do you have a link for Martin talking about the scene? Honestly asking, I’m interested in reading and I must’ve missed it.

I think it’s possible, certainly. The problem is assuming it without full proof when culture can explain the entire gap. We have a probable cause in front of us that most reasonable people can agree needs to be fixed - saying “but what if it’s because women are actually inferior?” doesn’t do anyone any good, unless

Kotaku at large is better than Compete, in terms of the majority of commenters being reasonable. Idk if it’s the Deadspin crowd or the atmosphere difference between writers. But yeah... wouldn’t go near the greys.

Men are biologically different than women and it’s going to affect things. Is that the primary reason for differences sometimes? Probably not. However, it’s most definitely a contributing factor, which matters greatly when you’re talking about the top tier of competitions.

No, you haven’t. You keep saying physical differences are *definitely* responsible for some aspect, which I disagree with. There’s no evidence proving that. It’s connected to the other point I’ve been making, because people like you implying women are born worse at e-sports (even if slightly) is one of the cultural

These guys probably think black gamers need to get over the n-word being used all the time. Because it’s not like people are racists, they’re just being assholes to get a reaction /sarcasm

it’s most definitely a contributing factor,
