One thing I have to say for Fringe, though: when they give a lame answer to a mystery, at least they do it fairly promptly.

"When the shows nails things down, the air of mystery evaporates, and so many neat possibilites get closed off."

The Observer science team are scientists. They have skills and knowledge that ordinary Observers likely don't. One thing that has (somewhat) frustrated me about Fringe over the years is the showrunners' belief that the audience doesn't need to know certain stuff — even stuff that could have good explanations easily invented for them, such as why Peter and Olivia forgot their childhoods. It isn't a stretch at all to believe…

Except "Welcome to Westfield," while enjoyable, really wasn't that deep. Nor was "Worlds Apart," except for the poignant scenario of the closing of the bridge.

For the past four seasons, we've watched the Observer science team. Not the main Observer race. Of course the Observer scientists are going to be kindler, gentler, and generally smarter and cooler. They're the nerds of the Observer world.

Was Joshua Jackson ever bad on Dawson's Creek, though? Sure, it was Dawson's Creek, but think of the incredibly unrealistic Shakespearean dialogue those teens had to say. It was pretty impressive.

With 13 episodes to this season, I'd really prefer there not to be any inert episodes. However, checking the credits I see it was solely written by Graham Roland who isn't exactly on the show's writing A-team (thank goodness, the other three writers this season - Wyman, Fury and Schapker - have better credentials). …

Hate to say this because I love everyone on this show, but Joshua Jackson did better in that scene without much dialogue than Anna Torv did with all the dialogue. I say this because I feel sorry whenever an actor (eg Anna) is handed a big glurt of "how I felt 20 years ago" dialogue. It's kind of thankless material…
