I agree. On first viewing, I definitely subscribed to the "waiting forever with the Blue Fairy" ending, but on re-watching, I realized how brilliant the real ending is. It's a typically perverse Kubrick stroke of genius to realize that only the master-manipulator of cinematic sentiment could twist the knife as

I kind of got the impression the Diana plotline was wrapped up, but we'll see. She does have bad news written on her, I agree.

I came across this film at random on TCM (why don't they have a Roku stream??) and really enjoyed it. Also, I was pleased to see the original Doctor Who, William Hartnell, as a pub landlord.

Anything that gets Lily Tomlin on my screen is fine by me!

So, basically, Miss Piggy. :)

"Down on Draper."
"Oh."
"Get it up…"

The episode was also set in April, 1970, which is when the musical made its Broadway debut!

I was SO reminded of Bobby from Sondheim's "Company" in the scene where Don calls his answering service. And then he brings home a stewardess, no doubt en route to Barcelona!

Awesome. This really is an amazing piece of dramatic music. I just was looking back at the article I wrote on JCS a few years ago….enjoy.

I have been loving revisiting this show, in the company of my 23 yo roomie who finds it as fresh and funny and daring as anything current (he's never even seen All in the Family). Though the one-act-play rhythm has taken him a bit of getting used to.

I really dug Sinead O'Connor's "You Do Something To Me" and the Iggy / Debbie "Did You Evah?" is a hoot.

I would have loved her as Galadriel in Lord of the Rings. Those eyes, those cheekbones, they really look apropos to "They shall love me and despair!"

Between Jabba, Audrey II, The Dark Crystal and Aliens, the mid-80s were a glorious time for really big, really complicated puppets. I miss it!

"Stardust" is one of my all-time favorite records. Definitely a must!

“So you want a realistic, down-to-earth show that’s completely off the wall and swarming with magic robots?”

"Snowmen have peepers - peepers to watch!"

Baruchel is adorable, so I'll definitely watch.

Not to be a shill or anything, but the original actors are starring in an acclaimed series of "Jago and Litefoot" audio dramas!

One thing that always struck me about Matt Smith on Doctor Who is clearly in evidence here - his odd, idiosyncratic line readings, which always added an interesting depth and intrigue to his dialog. The cadence he uses for "LOOK at - my - muscles, lookatmymuscles" is pure Smith.

For the "Director's Cut" they basically just threw every scrap of the finale footage they could find onto the disc, making it a less-than-satisfying sequence to watch. There is a trove of alternate scenes online, including a much better-edited version of the ending, and the dream sequence illustrating Seymour's
