bad engineers blame the end user for using it "improperly", good engineers design for the end user to use it however they want. True of more than just cars.

This engine is in everything from the GTI, A3 to the boring Audi Q5, and Tiguan to the iconic Golf R and it can be tuned to insanely high horsepower and return 30mpg in the right hands.

It's absolutely true that lighter cars are more nimble and can stop/handle well enough to avoid most accidents in the first place. That's not the point of the argument. Accidents are caused by driver error, and regardless of the car's capabilities, accidents will occur.
