Bungie staff have since denied it was ever this concrete, but it was originally supposed to be four standalone games in 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019, with a major “Comet” expansion for each in the off years.* Aside from missing those 2-year targets, it was the decision to introduce Vaulting to Destiny 2 rather than move

Yeah, I quite enjoy Destiny 2, and don’t mind paying for it at all! (Which doesn’t mean I’m unsympathetic to how overwhelmingly obtuse it must seem to new players/players who took time off; I’ve been playing Destiny since the beta for the first game, but if I hadn’t been, I’m not sure at all I’d want to start it now.)

Been going for 7 years now, 2nd largest concurrent player base behind WoW.  They’re doing something right.

I seem to recall reading that Bungie actually stated they were removing old content because they were updating the engine for new content and didn’t have the resources to update the old stuff. I don’t remember who said that, though.

Why? They enjoy playing them. Why not support them?

They don’t want you to be able to drop in, have a bit of fun, leave for a while, and repeat. They want either all of your time, or none of it.

It’s actually not true at all that they don’t want casual players; they’ve made a ton of QoL changes in the last year or two that were aimed at giving them more to do.

It’s not really a grind...basically playing the latest expansion story will get you up to the soft cap. They drop items that up your current weapons/armor that up your power by 10-15 at a time.

It’s still one of the more popular games around, there’s a lot of positive things about it now and then, like recently when people praised the narrative in the past year:

Honestly what they really need to vault is the last-gen version, so they can remove all the duplicate data and optimize the game entirely for super fast SSD usage.

The Switch’s USB-c port is only USB 3.0 so there’s absolutely no way it has the bandwidth required to handle something like an eGPU to offload processing. The absolute best you could hope for is a slightly smarter resolution upscaling on the HDMI signal, but your 4K TV can already do a decent job at that (most likely).

No, you are 100% wrong.

Man you would be the best lawyer for a robber. Sell a painting you made, then break into the house and steal it back because “its the artists property”. And hey...what genius idea...you could sell it again...and steal it again. Because its still “artists property”. Right? What a great money making scheme. Why didn’t

It wasn’t his property to begin with. There were multiple other parties involved and it sounds like they all disagree with what he’s doing.

lmao at this easily avoided and completely spectacular self-own. Looking forward to him claiming that this is proof he’s being victimised for his “conservative views” + posting even more white nationalist stuff on twitter than he does already (Note: I am not actually looking forward to this)

I think Bungie had been that way long before with Marty, who was their in-house guy. And while we’ll never know the true story, something went south, really badly in their relationship. And Marty is clearly in the wrong here.

Jeez, read the room. Fuck Marty and his shithead views.

Yeah, I was sad to learn what a jackass he is. Breaking the Destiny subreddits rules to promote himself, then when he was corrected by the mods, he played the “Do you know who I am?” card and went to twitter asking his followers to ‘declare war’ on reddit... yikes.

Marty did great work, his video game music will go down in history with the all-time greats, but the dude is a real piece of work personally and professionally, so he’s ultimately just getting what’s coming to him when he pulls shit like this.

This reminds of that recurring guy in Community, who basically rented out his identity to Subway and Honda. Jake From State Farm is now that actor’s legal name, a la Jennifer Government.
