I got hassle from the used car dealer as well as the BMW dealer I went to for an alignment because of this. Neither could comprehend that someone was a Jalopnik reader and had the gumption to DIY it despite all best reasoning. Got a free full inspection and punch list of needed parts free of charge at least. Handed me

The Matrix Continental pretty much singlehandedly inspired my love for retro boats of that era. I still want one but would never actually do it justice in ownership. Good lord though, is that a prime example of a movie car sparking an interest in the retro in a movie heavily steeped in futurism.

TO NEW BEGINNINGS! It has definitely been fun reading all of David’s and Jason’s stuff these years.

For some reason this made me sad, because now I remember all the projects up in the air that might get no conclusion.
I sure hope you continue those projects at the other site David, I need some closure. The FC, all of em.

So this is the last bit of the Changing of the Guard, eh? Excited for whatever comes next for you guys, whatever it is I will add it to my daily reading/viewing.
My heart kinda sank when I read this headline, because I’ve only been reading Jalop for about 10 years or so, so it seems like the last two writers I remember

Compartmentalizing horrible stuff is pretty much how anyone gets good at anything dangerous, great review and I was amazed when I F5'd to see comments and there were none now that I got to reading through this tab.
Shame, this was a solid review.

4x4s, there is a place in Golden, CO that seems to have a fairly consistent import inventory of old military stuff, German heavy on the selection.
Just one of those that might be a permanent backburner since I have a first gen Montero that still runs and drives great -

I get to do thrust arm bushings very soon, so I am feeling the struggle before I even struggle.

Those seemingly harmless pieces signify a monumental struggle. I winced at the picture.

I hadn’t priced out just axle kits alone, and you weren’t kidding. I don’t know if I have the level of effort required to learn an old military platform, let alone source the parts, but this will always be a backburner goal.

And old friend up in the ski resort side had a Pinzgauer a solid decade plus ago, it was a really spartan ride.

For reasons I can’t explain, I have always wanted and will at some point own a vehicle with portal axles.

I finally got a wheel and pedals and diving into sims has been humbling and fantastically rewarding.

I call direct bullshit on the 15 ft/lbs torque on the aftermarket plugs, I had one of theirs back out of cylinder 6 on my N55 in a BMW335i when torqued to 17-18 which is manufacturer spec per Bentley manual.
Torque it down a quarter turn more snug after you plink it at 15-17, unless you want to figure out why you have

This just makes me extremely weary and thankful that those... more than I would like to admit, times, where I really rung the bell... quite thankful I woke up the next day.

I ended up getting the 2019 version of Grid for super cheap or free and hardly touched it until I got a wheel and pedals, it has really good FFB for an arcadey racer so I hope that is carried over here. It had a really good balance of letting you feel edge of control without spinning out all the time.

The biggest pain on first gen Monteros with the V6 when doing the oil pump is popping the engine mounts and lifting the thing up into the firewall to get clearance to get the oil pan off. For an otherwise very easy to service vehicle, that was a weird step to get to in the book. We still tried for like 2 hours to get

I ended up at some point doing those on an outback with the 3.6 6 cylinder, and coming from the bottom was the only way to get at many of them with many knuckles and extensions. I remember it being one of the main factors in “next car, inline 6, everything on top nice and tidy” being my mantra for my current daily.

Safely hooning in snow is truly one of life’s purest pleasures, and one of the best ways to learn a lot of the basics of losing and regaining control, as well as controlled sliding. The lower stakes of lower potential speed still won’t stop you from hitting the one solitary damn lamp post in the lot, but hey, you are

I need to source a set of front struts and rear shocks for a 2014 BMW 335i which are 4 months out per Bilstein backorders. Getting that order in next week, along with it I need to do the front lower control arm or thrust arm bushings which means probably just swapping the arms out based on pricing things. Then my N55
