Oh, I'm not debating that. In fact, I'm quite happy with her minimal role. Just saying that if they wanted her in and wanted to keep the drama, there were ways.

Instead of doing that, why not have had Wolverine critically wound Kitty not long after Rogue shows up, Rogue then has to sadly use up the rest of Kitty's life by absorbing her power and continuing casting Wolverine back. Then that sense of tension is still there as Rogue's Kitty powers are slowly ebbing as she loses
