But...Koreans do eat dogs. Are we at the point where even making factual statements about non-white cultures is “racist” when the fact is uncomfortable?

I love how whenever you press people on their opinions in these comments section they immediately call you you a troll, and then shutdown. It’s almost as if you don’t have any argument in response. Have a nice day though!
lol. Whatever you say hun. You were the one acting like SNL was the absolute extreme margins of comedy in 2000, and that views on blackface haven’t changed since then. I guess it’s probably just to be sarcastic than to admit you spouting out BS.
“One show that operates at the extreme margins of what can air on network television”
Would SNL ever run a segment with blackface today? If your answer is no, you’re kinda proving my point.
What hill do you think I’m dying on? I honestly think we’re talking about slightly different things here, Angry. I’m not talking about the moral acceptability of Jimmy Fallon wearing black face, or the moral acceptability of misogynist/homophobic material today. I’m talking about the social acceptability of the…
I’d argue that if a show like SNL let it air to begin with, that kinda proves that it was a different era where it was more accepted.
Oh, I agree. Some people are far too quick to view racism solely as a white v. non-white thing. There is plenty of racism between non-white groups, and as much as people on here will say it isn’t a thing, racism and prejudice against white people is obviously possible.
You could say this about lot of groups, not just Whites. How many black comics have homophobic or misogynistic material?
I said, “So everyone has implicit biases, but only some people need to recognize theirs?”, to which you agreed, adding, “Ask yourself which kind of peoples’ biases do more damage when expressed unthinkingly, and why.” My point is that race has next to nothing to do with the damage of holding unrecognized implicit…
lol. Such self-righteousness. I think all peoples’ biases can do damage when expressed unthinkingly, especially when they are in a position of relative power, and race has little do it. If an Asian store owner assumes a black shopper is stealing, and calls the cops, is that any less damaging than if the store owner…
So everyone has implicit biases, but only some people need to recognize theirs?
So your point applies to anyone in any situation. Great.
I dunno, I think she has received some heat from her songs/videos/whole vibe being retro, and sort of feeding into an old school idea of gender roles and female sexuality. If you wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt, you could argue that that’s what she was (poorly) trying to say...that some female artists are…
Everyone holds implicit biases.
I think she’s trying to say that there is room within feminism for women who are “softer”, and have traits that are closer to traditional Western views (patriarchal) views of what a woman should be. So, a woman acting that way, or at least having characteristics that aren’t dissimilar to older, more conservative views…
“’If I say this, will Women of Color have to explain my shit to me’ is ‘yes’, then don’t say it.”
Yeah, there were a ton of people who were almost involved. They wanted Michelle Pfeifer for Clarice.
So you’re willing to not “believe all women” when it’s convenient?
“Women and POC are not given the second chances that white men receive. Can you imagine the outcry had Hillary sought the nomination, again?”
