Yes, you did something stupid - but no, it wasn’t the fact that you mismatched those parts and bought yourself a bunch of rework. That’s just an honest mistake, shit happens. The stupid thing you did was to get into wrenching like this in the first place - by any rational standard, that’s just not very smart.
