Counterpoint: the check-engine light is fucking great and we should never let go of it, even as we enter the EV age. It should be one of those amazing things that lives on long after its real-world counterpart dies.

I never locked the doors in my soft top NA miata. I figured better for them to open the door to look for stuff to steal, than to cut the top to look for loose change in the cup holders. I assume being a cheap little car with little value and being a manual helped it not get stolen.

Paying attention, anticipating changes, knowing how the machine works. Momentum. Either of these cars could out-accelerate, out-brake, and out-handle most cars built in the 70's, 80's and 90's. People these days overcompensate with power because they lack skill.
