Is that the stretch with the sign that says “NEXT SERVICES 105 MILES”?

I would love to do some more exploring in NM/AZ. I’ve been to the south rim of the Grand Canyon, but that’s about it. Sadly, I’m usually under a time crunch and need to just haul ass across... maybe when (if) I retire, I’ll have time.
Went to college in Superior, WI. And had a family reunion in Copper Harbor (we have family ties to the Quincy copper mine). Can confirm. The drive up the north shore of Lake Superior from Duluth to Grand Marais is amazing, but don’t try it in winter...
I don’t know the East Coast half all that well, but my favorite route from Chicago to LA is I-55 to I-70, then south on US-54 out of Wichita across the panhandle to Tucumcari, NM, and then hop on I-40 to I-15 in Barstow.
“OK, so we got a trooper pulls someone over, we got a shooting, these folks drive by, there’s a high-speed pursuit, ends here and then this execution-type deal...”
No, it says “Manuel,” not Manual. The transmission was replaced, and that’s the name of the mechanic who did it. Nice guy. Does good work. But doesn’t know how to drive a stick.
I saw it several times while shopping for a project car a few years ago. Pissed me off every single time. And the most maddening part is that it must work occasionally, or else they’d stop doing it.
Here’s the response you’ll get from the “seller” if you reply to those ads:
Same with Oregon. Once we were looking for a parking spot at Target, and my wife was driving, and I said, “There’s one, between those two Subarus.” She replied, “You’ll have to be more specific. EVERY spot around here is between the Subarus.”
I like it. It kinda looks like a Jeep had sex with a garden tractor, but I guess for its intended purpose, that’s not far off.
My dad had that book back when he had a Beetle. I remember paging through it when I was a kid.
The more I look at it, the more I can’t figure out how the hell he managed this. That power pole is like 2 car lengths away from the nearest exit from that parking lot. How’d he get going so fast so quickly? Unless he went out the other exit onto Foster, and then turned right...? But even that’s only half a block.
Good ol’ Foster Road... always a source of... I guess you could call it amusement. Now I’m tempted to drive past there on my way home and see if the truck’s still there...
Manual? AWD? Hatchback? Fun? Reliable?
“Happy and slow” works here, too...
Of all the types of vehicles I never expected to skyrocket in value...
Sunroofs as well, huh? So THAT’s what was up with the big map of Detroit on the Grand Wagoner’s roof. It’s not just a decoration; it’s a giant overhead navigation display! The reason it showed Detroit is because that’s where they toook the photo... it all makes sense now.
Just needs Gulf logos...
How about a radial or three?
These are cool, but the one I wish they had sold here was the Coupe. If I ever took advantage of the 25 year rule, this would be on my short list.
