Probably around the same time conservative thought leaders learn that most black people don’t live in urban hellscapes and that most pedophiles are CIS heterosexuals

I’m done arguing with you. I don’t care what they think! Nowhere else on Earth are the losers of civil wars so honored as in the US. Honoring the Confederacy isn’t just honoring a losing side, it’s honoring a losing side that would’ve continued a brutal regime of torture and misery. Giving them the benefit of the

Also, Southerner here, born and raised in North Carolina. Family has lived in the state for hundreds of years and my ancestors fought for the South. Fuck ‘em. They picked the losing side and are long dead. I feel no need to defend them now.

He does cover it.

I don’t understand the idea that the losing side in a civil war should be honored at all. I don’t see why it matters how wealthy their ancestors were. Their side lost. They don’t get to have monuments commemorating their treason.

Well, to be fair, the Civil War was about state’s rights… the uppermost right being the right to own and buy and sell other human beings as property. I live in south Louisiana and the human truck nuts protesting the removal of Confederate statues can suck it, those treasonous fuckers are coming down sooner or later.

Saying your ancestor couldn’t afford slaves but fought for the institution of slavery just proves they were racist AND stupid.

Although supporting a side that was based on slavery even if your ancestors didn’t own any is still stupid. There was a section of Virginia that was filled with such poor people. To their credit, they thought the Confederacy was bullshit and became their own Union-supporting state, West Virginia. Today, I know West

Here’s one argument my hypothetical racist relatives might maye I’d like refuted: Most of the people who fought for the South were dirt poor and were forced to fight by mere circumstance, so someone may legitimately feel a statue is a monument to their poor dead ancestors.

...the one where Confederate president Robert E. Lee said...

I prefer mine.

You seem to have misread the sentence. “Getting a pass” means “getting a pass on his family’s history with the confederacy” not “getting a pass on owning slaves”
And as was pointed out in the John Oliver piece, his family owning/not owning slaves wasn’t the point. The fact that he’s defending a movement dedicated to

You can’t reason someone out of a position they didn’t reason themselves into

I want to see if he got another job!

I mean, when Q found out that Sisko was perfectly willing to deck him in the face, he never showed his face DS9 again.

“A trailer for sequel to a truely horrible movie, which in itself is looking more and more liken it is going to be horrible itself”

If you had told me in the 90s that Gillian Anderson would be hotter than David Duchovny in the year 2017 I would not have believed you. But here we are.

Enough now, let’s have Frank back

I sincerely hope this is sarcasm...

Counterpoint: Ben FUCKING Sisko
